How to Fix The Instagram Feed On Your Squarespace Web Design
Maybe it's been a minute since you've looked at your website, and when you do you notice that your Instagram block isn’t showing your most recent posts on Squarespace. In fact, it seems like it hasn't been updated in quite awhile. It's not uncommon to have issues with the Instagram block syncing on Squarespace. There are a couple common reasons this happens: the authentication has expired, you've changed your password, or an update on Instagram itself (Instagram updates can affect how websites like Squarespace interact with your feed and they update it A LOT). But do not panic! The fix for these issues is easy, and I've put together a step-by-step guide to show you exactly how to reconnect the Instagram feed block on Squarespace.
Step 1: Log Into Your Instagram Account
Make sure you can log into your Instagram account and that you’re using the correct credentials (especially if you've recently updated your password). Being logged in to your profile will make reconnecting the feed easier once we get to that step. And as a side note, you’ll need to make sure your profile is set to public otherwise the private posts won’t be accessed.
Step 2: Verify Your Instagram Account Connection
Log in to your website backend where you’re experiencing issues. Navigate to Settings > Third Party Tools > Connected Accounts and find Instagram in the list to check the connection status. If the account shows as disconnected or there are error messages, you'll need to reconnect it.
Step 3: Reconnect Your Instagram Account
In the Connected Accounts section, click on Instagram and click Disconnect to remove the account. The select Connect Account to add Instagram back. You'll be prompted to authorize Squarespace to access your account. Follow the prompts to authenticate and relink your Instagram account. Reconnecting should resolve issues caused by expired authentication tokens or changes in privacy settings.
Step 4: Check the Instagram Block Settings
Once your account is reconnected, go to the page/area of your site where your Instagram block is located to ensure it's set up correctly. Click the Edit button and click on the Instagram Block to access the block settings. Make sure that the correct Instagram account is selected and that it is set to display the desired number of posts and layout. If it's already selected and still doesn't seem to be updating, unselect it and then reselect it to sync again. And don’t forget to hit Save to publish your changes!
Now you know exactly why your Squarespace Instagram feed may not be working when you see it isn’t updating, and you can reconnect it as needed lickety-split and no one will ever be the wiser. And you also know it's not a bad idea to keep an eye on it in the future so you can catch it when it happens!
